Harwood Arrested for Common Law Robbery

A man was jailed on January 15th for allegedly robbing another man of his cash, according to a news release by Burke County Sheriff's Office detective Tom Rhyne.

James Eugene Harwood, Jr. is being held in the Burke County Jail under a $25,000 secured bond after allegedly pulling Oliver Ray Parton from a vehicle they were traveling in and taking $126.00 in cash. Harwood is charged with one count of common law robbery.

Rhyne advised the offense occurred on January 12th as the men rode together on sparsely populated Corpening Bridge Road in northwestern Burke County. Once the men were outside of the car, Harwood pinned Parton against the vehicle and took his cash, threatening bodily harm if he resisted, according to Rhyne.

Harwood was arrested by Lt. Banks Hinceman on January 15th during a traffic stop on Highway 181 and served the felony warrant.

A first court appearance is set for January 17th.
