Man Charged with Shooting of Two

A Morganton man is in jail and his alleged victims are hospitalized after a January 24th shooting in western Burke County.

Chester Lee Summers, of 4183 Chambers Chapel Church Rd., Morganton is under a $100,000 secured bond after allegedly shooting Demeatree Ivery and Chad L. Summers of 3404 Lytle Drive, Morganton.

According to Burke County detectives Tom Rhyne and Jerry McCall, the shooting may have been the result of a sum of money Chester Summers supposedly was owed by the victims.

At approximately 6:05 PM, Chester Summers went to Chad Summers and Ivery's residence and waited for them to return, according to investigators. Once they arrived home, an argument took place inside the residence, escalating to the point that Chad Summers allegedly shot Chad Summers three times and Demeatree Ivery once. Chad Summers was shot as he attempted to obtain a firearm, detectives said.

Chester Summers left the residence but turned himself in at the Burke County Sheriff's Office shortly afterwards. He was charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious bodily injury. Summers was jailed in the Burke Catawba District Confinement Facility and faces a first court appearance on January 26th.

The victims were admitted to Grace Hospital, where they are listed in stable condition.
