| Two Charged with Sell/Delivery of
Marijuana |
| |
| A vehicle stop conducted by two Morganton
community police officers on February 9th resulted in the confiscation of
marijuana and currency. |
| |
| Officers Scott Carico and Jason Whisnant stopped
a vehicle on Circle Court driven by Brandon Patrick Caldwell, 20, of 107
Mulberryhills Apts. in Morganton. The officers located a small amount of
marijuana inside the vehicle, according to a Burke County Narcotics Task Force
news release. |
| |
| When Caldwell was questioned by the officers, he
reportedly grabbed a white bag from the rear seat and ran. He was taken into
custody a short time later, along with the bag, which allegedly contained
marijuana. |
| |
| The Burke County Narcotics Task Force was called
to the scene and took Caldwell and his passenger, Kelly Lamont Mathes, 26, of
501 West Concord Street, Morganton, into custody. Task Force officers, along
with officers from the Morganton Department of Public Safety, searched Mathes'
residence and located additional marijuana and drug paraphernalia, the release
stated. |
| |
| A total of approximately 227 grams (one-half
pound) of marijuana was seized, along with a large amount of money. Both men
were placed under a $50,000 secured bond after being charged with possession
with intent to sell and deliver marijuana. Additional charges are pending on
Caldwell and Mathes, who have a first court appearance on February 12th. |
