School Psychologist Arrested on Sex Charges

Amber Williams
A former Burke County Public School psychologist was arrested today and charged with two counts of statutory rape.

Amber Denise Williams, 27, of 100 Bealers Drive, Linville turned herself into authorities today and was also charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and providing alcohol to a minor, stated detectives with the Burke County Sheriff's Office.

According to investigators, in February, 2001 the Burke County Department of Social Services received reports of inappropriate conduct between Williams and some students from East Burke High School. An joint investigation with the Sheriff's Office and D.S.S. continued throughout the spring, culminating in Williams' arrest this afternoon.

Williams resigned from her job when the investigation was initiated in February.

Williams was placed in the Burke Catawba District Confinement Facility under a $75,000 bond. The investigation is continuing and additional charges are anticipated to be presented to the grand jury, stated investigators.
