Youth from "About Face" Boot Camp Charged

A 16-year-old attending a boot camp for troubled teens faces more trouble after Burke County investigators charged him with the burglary of an eastern Burke convenience store.

Gary Gene Jones, Jr. of Portland, Maine was attending the "About Face" Boot Camp on Roger Hill Road in Connelly Springs prior to being charged on August 20th.

Sheriff's detectives allege Jones broke into H&H Grocery on Highway 18 South in Connelly Springs and stole candy, cigarettes and a pocketknife. In addition to Jones, two other juveniles from the boot camp were questioned by investigators. Charges are pending on the juveniles, who are both under the age of sixteen, according to one detective.

Jones was jailed under a $5,000 bond and placed in the Burke Catawba District Confinement Facility. He has a court date of September 12th.
