Bethel Road Convenience Store Robbed

An armed robbery was reported by the Colonel's Pantry on Bethel Road early Sunday morning.

Detective David Warlick said a white man entered the business around 2:30 a.m. and pointed a long barreled black revolver at the clerk. After demanding money, the man reportedly disabled the telephone line from a fax machine and removed the cash drawer from the register which contained around $30.

The man exited the front door and ran around the east side of the building, the clerk reported to Warlick.

Warlick said a Sheriff's Office K-9 dog tracked the suspect's scent to a field approximately 75 yards south of the store, where tire track evidence was located. The evidence indicated the vehicle left on Drexel Road toward Morganton.

The clerk described the suspect as being around 6' tall with dark brown eyes. He wore a black long sleeved shirt, black pants, white tennis shoes and a black hood which revealed only the eye area.

Warlick stated there are no suspects as the investigation continues.
