Made False Report, Deputies Say |
| |
| A Morganton man who reported he had been robbed
by two men wearing ski masks finds himself in trouble with the law after he was
charged with making a false report to officers. |
| |
| Robert Wesley Merryman Jr., 25, a store clerk at
B&R Stone and Stuff on Jamestown Road, was found by deputies on February
2nd in the store's restroom with his hands bound with rope. Merryman gave
a description of the two masked men and told officers he had been choked
unconscious by the two, who later fled the store with an undetermined amount of
money. |
| |
| An investigation by Detective Robert Beall of
the Sheriff's Office determined the report to be bogus, and Merryman was
arrested on February 15th. Merryman was released on a written promise to appear
in Burke County District Court. His court date is scheduled for February
22nd. |

| The Morganton Department of Public Safety
assisted in the case. |
