Accused Murderer Brown is Arrested

Accused triggerman Jerry "Lee" Brown, Jr. (right) was apprehended by members of the Burke County Sheriff's Office last night as he left the residence of a friend, according to Sheriff John T. McDevitt.

Brown, 24, had been sought by authorities since Sunday for the murder of Tyrone Deloatch, 32, who's body was found lying in the parking lot of the Kathy Road Grocery in western Burke County. Three others have also been charged with Deloatch's murder.

"We're glad to get this man off the streets," said McDevitt.

Brown's arrest brings closure to numerous searches the Sheriff's Office had conducted since Sunday. Three other suspects, James Edward Hall (top left); Torree Bryant Benjamin (top center); and Tiffany Raquel Robinson (top right) were arrested Sunday and remain in jail.

McDevitt said he talked with Brown via cellphone several times Monday night and attempted to get him to turn himself in, but Brown refused. The Sheriff said Brown also cursed him and made threats to him.

Authorities received a tip concerning Brown's whereabouts and set up a perimeter near the residence, which is located on Highway 126 near the McDowell County line. A vehicle containing two people left the residence a short time later and was stopped by deputies.

"We performed a felony vehicle stop and found the passenger to be Lee Brown," McDevitt said. "Thankfully he was unarmed and didn't display any resistance."

A determination has not been made on whether to charge the driver of the vehicle for aiding and assisting Brown, stated McDevitt.

Brown was taken to the Sheriff's Office and served the murder warrant. He was jailed under no bond and has a first court appearance today.
