A 60-year-old
Connelly Springs man is in jail after authorities raided his home which
allegedly contained drugs and other illegal items.
Huegene Carson, of
7084 Maple Grove Extension was running what Sheriff John T. McDevitt called an
"unlicensed country store."
"He was selling everything from pickled
pig's feet to crack cocaine," McDevitt said. |
|
| McDevitt said a search warrant was served on
Carson Thursday morning. Along with the Sheriff were deputies and members of
the Burke County Sheriff's Office's SWAT team, the Burke County Narcotics Task
Force and Morganton Department of Public Safety officers along with their
canine, "Macho." |
| |
The Task Force seized
approximately 150 rocks of crack cocaine found inside a pain reliever bottle,
along with a large sum of money, McDevitt said. Also found were several cartons
of cigarettes which have been traced to a break-in reported recently at Walsh's
Market near Hildebran.
"We believe a number of people were trading
stolen items to Carson in exchange for drugs," McDevitt said. |
 |
|
| The residence, which is located close to the
Catawba County line off of Highway 18 South, looked like a mini-convenience
store on the inside, according to McDevitt. |
| |
| "He was also selling chips and drinks, tobacco
products and other items in addition to illegal substances," said the
sheriff. |
| |
| Carson was charged with possession with intent
to sell and deliver cocaine, possession of cocaine, and maintaining a dwelling
for controlled substances, which are all felony charges. More charges are
pending, investigators said. |
| |
| Carson received a first court appearance today
as he remains in jail under a $25,000 secured bond. |
