Husband and Wife Arrested for Selling Pot

The Burke County Narcotics Task Force executed a drug search warrant Friday and arrested a couple at their Connelly Springs mobile home.

James William Shoupe, III, 32; and Melissa Childers Shoupe, 31, of 131 Hilltop Street are both facing charges of possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and maintaining a residence to keep controlled substances. The arrests are the culmination of a lengthy investigation, according to Task Force investigators.

Detectives said the search yielded an approximate pound of marijuana, along with numerous pieces of evidence showing that controlled substances were being sold from the home. In addition to the drugs, detectives seized thirty-seven bags used to store controlled substances, three vehicles, and $16,000 in currency.

James and Melissa Shoupe were placed under $50,000 secured bonds and will have initial court appearances on March 18.
