Shot; Husband Charged |

A 32-year-old
Morganton woman is hospitalized after reportedly being shot by her husband
during a domestic dispute.
Kimberly Lynn Benfield was transported to
Grace Hospital by her husband, Cecil Lester Benfield, Jr. (pictured right), 41, Friday night around 9:45 P.M after
he allegedly shot her in the shoulder. She was later transferred to Baptist
Hospital in Winston Salem, where she remains in stable condition. |

| The shooting occurred at the Benfield's home,
located at 1014 Bethel Road. According to witnesses, Cecil Benfield, Jr. shot
his wife with a .45 calibre handgun during an argument. |

| Deputies with the Burke County Sheriff's Office
arrested Benfield at Grace Hospital. Detectives later obtained a search warrant
for the home and focused their investigation there. |

| Cecil Benfield, Jr. was charged with assault
with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious bodily injury. He
was jailed under no bond for forty-eight hours, which is required under North
Carolina's domestic violence law. He will have a first court appearance on
Monday. |
