Woman Shot; Husband Charged
 
A 32-year-old Morganton woman is hospitalized after reportedly being shot by her husband during a domestic dispute.

Kimberly Lynn Benfield was transported to Grace Hospital by her husband, Cecil Lester Benfield, Jr. (pictured right), 41, Friday night around 9:45 P.M after he allegedly shot her in the shoulder. She was later transferred to Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, where she remains in stable condition. 
 
The shooting occurred at the Benfield's home, located at 1014 Bethel Road. According to witnesses, Cecil Benfield, Jr. shot his wife with a .45 calibre handgun during an argument. 
 
Deputies with the Burke County Sheriff's Office arrested Benfield at Grace Hospital. Detectives later obtained a search warrant for the home and focused their investigation there. 
 
Cecil Benfield, Jr. was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious bodily injury. He was jailed under no bond for forty-eight hours, which is required under North Carolina's domestic violence law. He will have a first court appearance on Monday.
