| Sheriff
Stops Suspects, Seizes Meth |
| |
Authorities attempting to
search a residence for drugs Tuesday found no one home, but the suspects' car
was later stopped by Sheriff John McDevitt, where a quantity of "crank" was
reportedly seized.
Charged with possession with intent to sell and
deliver methamphetamine was Nathan Ray Bumgarner (right), 39, of 2726 Connelly Church Street in Connelly
Springs. It was Bumgarner's home authorities were attempting to
search. |
 |
|
Also charged was
Michele Rae Parsons (right), 31, of 3185 Windy
Hill Drive in Valdese, who was reportedly inside the vehicle with
Bumgarner.
The Burke County Narcotics Task Force began a surveillance
operation near the home after discovering Bumgarner and Parsons were not there.
McDevitt spotted the suspects near the residence and stopped their vehicle,
according to a detective with the Task Force. |
 |
|
| Officers seized approximately eight and one half
grams of methamphetamine, which Bumgarner and Parsons allegedly possessed. The
vehicle, along with an undisclosed amount of currency, was
confiscated. |
| |
| Methamphetamine, which is typically produced in
crude laboratories by drug dealers, continues to be a growing problem in the
Unifour area. The Burke County Narcotics Task Force and deputies made several
arrests last month in unrelated cases. |
| |
| "We are seeing a great influx of this drug,"
stated McDevitt. "We're doing our best to put these illicit dealers out of
business, and our efforts have already damaged their profitability." |
| |
| The two suspects were jailed under $25,000
secured bonds until their first court appearance. |
