Burke & Alexander Work Together in Drug Bust

Detectives with the Burke County Narcotics Task Force and the Alexander County Sheriff's Office teamed up Wednesday night, arresting two Hickory men during a cocaine trafficking investigation. 
 
Charles David Melton, 46, of 106 Lakeside Loop, Hickory (Alexander County); and Darrell Lynn Hendrix, 38, of 3919 Main Avenue Dr. N.W., Hickory were charged by Alexander authorities with trafficking in cocaine by possession, possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, and maintaining a vehicle for controlled substances.
 
The case reportedly began in Burke County after Task Force officers received information that Melton was dealing large quantities of cocaine in both Burke and Alexander County.
 
The case concluded in Alexander County Wednesday night when Task Force and Alexander County deputies stopped a vehicle occupied by Melton and Hendrix. The officers seized approximately two ounces of cocaine from the vehicle, according to reports.
 
The officers later searched Melton's residence and seized approximately $650, digital scales and drug paraphernalia, two boats and two vehicles. 
 
The two men were jailed in Alexander County under $75,000 secured bonds.
