Wilkerson Busted After Berrytown Complaints |
| |
 |
Numerous
complaints from the Berrytown community, concerned about drug activity in their
neighborhood, led to the arrest of a man possessing a large amount of crack
cocaine, authorities say.
William Howard Wilkerson, Jr. (left), 20, of 1577 C.V. Johnson Drive was stopped
by a sheriff's deputy Friday after members of the Burke County Narcotics Task
Force received |
|
| information that he was attempting to deliver
cocaine. |
| |
| After stopping Wilkerson's maroon 1998
Chevrolet, deputies reportedly located a large quantity of crack cocaine and an
undisclosed amount of currency. |
| |
"We were pleased to seize
over one hundred rocks of crack cocaine (pictured
right) from this individual," said Sheriff John T.
McDevitt.
"This is a fine example of how community watch programs
can be beneficial to all concerned," McDevitt said. "The residents of Berrytown
were instrumental in Wilkerson's arrest." |
 |
|
| Wilkerson was charged with felonious possession
of crack cocaine and possession with intent to sell and deliver crack cocaine.
He was placed under a $25,000 secured bond and has a first court appearance on
Monday. |
| |
| Assisting the Task Force and Sheriff's Office in
this case was Tom McManus and his canine, "Dee Dee" from the Morganton
Department of Public Safety. |
