Three people, including a twenty-year career school teacher from Burke County, were arrested during a drug raid in the Enola community Tuesday night.

Anne Harbison Whisenant, 43, and her husband, Tony Jay Whisenant, 37 of 1990 Barn Hill Orchard Road, Morganton are facing multiple drug charges after officers raided their home around 5:20 P.M. Anne Whisenant reportedly is a kindergarten teacher at Chesterfield Elementary School.

According to an investigator with the Burke County Narcotics Task Force, their agency had received reports in the past few years concerning Tony Whisenant's alleged involvement in the drug trade.

"We heard back in January that both Tony and his wife were selling cocaine," the investigator said. "We finally received enough information to apply for a search warrant."

The investigator said members of the Burke County Sheriff's Office SWAT Team stormed the house and found several people inside in addition to the suspects, including a two-year-old child.

"We found other subjects inside the house who we recently charged with dealing illegal drugs," stated the detective.

Also charged was Jazz Allan Connelly (right), 17, of 106 Ora Place, Morganton. Connelly was charged with possession of a schedule II drug after a quantity of crack cocaine was reportedly found in his pocket.

Canines with the Burke County Sheriff's Office and the Morganton Department of Public Safety searched the home and approximately seven grams of cocaine was located in different locations throughout the residence, Task Force officers said.

In addition to the drugs, officers seized cash, drug paraphernalia, and a Land Rover vehicle.

The Whisenants were charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, and maintaining a dwelling to sell and deliver controlled substances. Both were placed under a $50,000 secured bond. Connelly's bond was set at $25,000. The three suspects have a first court appearance today.

The North Carolina Department of Probation and Parole also assisted in the investigation.
