Tip Leads to Stolen Property Arrest

Investigators working on an anonymous tip located a $20,000 tractor reported stolen from Caldwell County on March 18th. A Morganton man is facing charges in the matter.

On Friday, detectives charged 23-year-old Jason Kelly Miller (left), of 950 Lot 1 Connelly Road, with felonious possession of stolen goods and obtaining property by false pretenses. Miller is also facing charges in Caldwell County, detectives say.

On March 18th, Julian David Baker contacted the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office and reported his New Holland tractor was stolen from a home under construction.

The Burke County Sheriff's Office received a tip on April 29th that the tractor was at a Connelly Road residence. After checking out the tip, investigators learned that Miller had allegedly traded the tractor to Harold Gene Piercy of Morganton, in exchange for an 18 ft. boat and trailer.

Detectives said Piercy was the victim of deception and was not aware the tractor was stolen. They also stated Jason Miller worked at the construction site where the tractor was reported stolen.

Miller was placed under a $2,000 secured bond and will have a first court appearance today.
