Poole Charged with Felony Assault, Robbery

Detectives arrested a 28-year-old Valdese man Saturday for allegedly hitting a Lenoir man with a beer bottle and robbing him afterward.

Timothy Wayne Poole (left) of 1272 Margaret Street was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, and robbery with a dangerous weapon.

The Burke County Sheriff's Office received a call
around 3 a.m. Saturday from Larry Dwayne Baker, 28, of Lenoir. Deputies responded and found Baker sitting in his car along John Berry Road near Drexel.

Baker told deputies he had given Poole a ride home from a bar in Morganton. During the ride, Poole reportedly asked Baker to pull off of the road so he could relieve himself.

As both men stepped from the vehicle, Poole allegedly struck Baker in the head with the beer bottle and began kicking him in the face. Baker said Poole took his (Baker's) wallet containing approximately $250 and a compact disc carrying case and left the scene.

Poole was found passed out on Amherst Road with the compact disc case in his possession, a detective said. Baker was treated and released at Valdese Hospital for injuries to his head and nose.

Poole was jailed under a $25,000 secured bond and has a first court appearance today.
