Bond Set at One Half Million for Setzer

$500,000 is the bond set for a Lenoir man accused of sexual crimes against several children, including a fifteen-year-old female.

According to investigators with the Burke County Sheriff's Office, Charles Otis Setzer (left), 52, of 3330 Gaither Walker Circle, Lenoir gained the trust of several different adults, which enabled him to be alone with their children and commit the sex acts.

The investigation by sheriff's detectives began on June 10th when a report was received concerning the sexual assault of the fifteen-year-old, which allegedly occurred on May 26th. The girl reportedly gave detectives information concerning her assault, and also identified other victims of Setzer.

These new allegations against Setzer go back to year 2000, shortly after his release from prison on sex charges, a detective said. Setzer reportedly is a registered sex offender in the state of Illinois and Caldwell County, N.C.

Setzer was arrested Tuesday in Lenoir by Burke and Caldwell County investigators and charged with four counts of statutory rape, four counts of indecent liberties with a child, and one count of statutory sexual offense. He was placed in the Burke County Jail where additional charges from both Burke and Caldwell are pending, investigators say. Setzer has a first court appearance today.

Caldwell County Probation and Parole assisted the Burke and Caldwell County Sheriff's Offices in the case.
