Man Charged with Sex Crimes |

An sexual abuse
investigation initiated by the Sheriff's Office on June 20th climaxed Monday
with the arrest of 45-year-old Denver, N.C. man.
Elvis Glenn Helms
(left) of 4854 Eli Drive, Denver was charged by
Burke detectives with one count of first degree statutory sexual offense, and
two counts of taking indecent liberties with a child.
The alleged
victim is a nine-year-old boy. |

| Helms is a former resident of Burke County and
reportedly was a friend of the boy's family. The sex crimes occurred in a
wooded area near Helms' residence around May 11th, according to
investigators. |

| Helms was arrested at his Denver home and jailed
in Burke County under a $100,000 secured bond. He has a first court appearance
on July 17th. |
