Task Force Reports Several Drug Arrests

Four people were arrested Tuesday afternoon in separate drug busts in the county, according to investigators with the Burke County Narcotics Task Force.

Detectives charged Richard Kyle Orr, 23, of P.O. Box 1133, Robbinsville, N.C.; and Tiffany Nicole Mason, 19, of P.O. Box 779, Andrews, N.C. with possession with intent to sell and deliver methamphetamine after a vehicle stop by the Burke County Sheriff's Office and the N.C. State Highway Patrol.

Officers report they received a call concerning a suspected drunk driver traveling east from McDowell County. A Burke County deputy and

Richard Orr
NCSHP officer located the suspect's car and stopped it near the 106 exit.

Orr, who was the driver of the vehicle, reportedly attempted to run as he exited the car but was quickly apprehended.

The vehicle and Mason were searched, which resulted in officers finding suspected illegal narcotics. Investigators with the Burke County Narcotics Task Force were called to the scene and determined the drugs to be a pure form of methamphetamine referred to on the streets as "Ice", according to one detective.

In addition to drug charges, Orr was charged with driving while impaired, careless and reckless driving, and resisting an officer. Both Orr and Mason were placed under $25,000 secured bonds and will have a first court appearance today.

William Carswell
In an unrelated incident Tuesday, officers charged William Thomas Carswell, 33, of 100 Brookwood Church Road, Morganton; and Foy Ellis Deal, 52, of 2866 Pope Drive, Morganton with drug offenses after they were arrested at a medical center in Hildebran.

Investigators say Carswell was attempting to obtain a prescription for Oxycontin from Hildebran Medical Center when they arrested him on an unrelated warrant. The warrant alleged Carswell
obtained a prescription for Oxycontin on June 26th by fraudulent means of identification. The prescription was reportedly obtained from Western Piedmont Clinic.

Foy Deal
Deal was providing transportation for Carswell to the Hildebran Medical Center and was found in possession of what officers described as a "trafficking quantity" of Oxycontin.

Carswell was charged with felonious obtaining property by false pretenses, and Deal was charged with trafficking in controlled substances. Carswell was jailed on a $15,000 secured bond and Deal's bond was set at $25,000. Both men have a first court appearance Wednesday.

In another matter, investigators with the Task Force located seven marijuana plants during a search on Tuesday after receiving an anonymous tip.

The plants were found in a wooded area on County Line Road, growing in large cardboard barrels. Several bags of fertilizer and potting soil were located within a few feet of the barrels. There is a suspect in the case and charges are pending as the investigation continues.
