Former Convenience Store Managers Indicted

An investigation by the Burke County Sheriff's Office and N.C. State Bureau of Investigation into embezzlement allegations has led to the indictments of three former Jack B Quick managers.

The eight-month investigation began last December after authorities were contacted by the management of the convenience store chain, who uncovered the alleged crimes of former managers from the company's Highway 18 North store.

Indicted earlier this month were Jeffrey Lee Greene, 31, of 549 Abbington Road, Lenoir; Alice Treadway Tolbert, 32, of 6422 Curlee Road Lot 15, Conover; and Evelyn McNeely, 34, of 2201 Cedar Trails, Morganton.

Investigators said Greene embezzled $13,300 from the store in November, 2001 while serving as the manager.

Tolbert allegedly embezzled and entered into a conspiracy to embezzle $3,600 from the store between May and July, 2001 while serving as manager. McNeely was the assistant manager during the same time period and is accused of embezzlement and conspiracy to embezzle $1,090.

Greene was jailed under a $10,000 bond and Tobert and McNeely's bonds were set at $1,000 and $5,000, respectively. All three have a superior court date of August 12th.
