| The
December 30, 2002
shooting of a Burke County man has resulted in charges being filed against
a teenager, accused of accidentally shooting the man while target
practicing. |
| |
| Justin Miles Harris, 17, of 5469 Wallace Road,
Morganton was served with a criminal summons Tuesday, charging him with
misdemeanor assault using a deadly weapon against Ernest Eddy Huskins. The
charge was issued after investigators reviewed the case with the District
Attorney's Office. |
| |
| Huskins, who was working at his business on
Sundown Road, was shot in the leg after hearing something hit the side of the
building and going outside to investigate the source of the noise. |
| |
| Detectives state the business was hit at least
five times by gunshot. The investigation led to Harris' home, approximately 1/2
mile away from Huskins' business. |
| |
| Harris was target practicing with a new weapon
he received for Christmas, and was unaware the shots were endangering others, a
detective said. Other employees were reportedly inside Huskins' business when
the shots hit the building. |
| |
| Huskins was treated and released from Grace
Hospital in Morganton and Mission-St. Joseph's in Asheville. Harris' court date
is set for February 5th in Burke County District Court. |
