A Catawba
County man landed in jail yesterday after allegedly pointing a rifle at an
I-40 Flea Market vendor and taking some clothes.
Burke County Sheriff's
Office investigators charged Lee Jerome Stewart (left), 36, of 1049 6th Avenue
Drive, Hickory with one count of robbery with a dangerous weapon. The Sheriff's
Office responded to the robbery call at 12:21 p.m. Sunday after a call by the
flea market owner. |
|
| According to detectives, Sandra Kay Johnson of
Piney Road, Morganton was selling clothes at the Flea Market and confronted
Stewart with taking some of the merchandise. Stewart reportedly was a vendor in
the booth beside of Johnson's and was unknown to her. |
| |
| Stewart responded by pointing a rifle at
Johnson, detectives say. |
| |
| A cell phone was found at the scene and traced
to Stewart, who was later arrested and jailed after being charged with the
armed robbery. |
| |
| The suspect will have a first court appearance
this morning and remains in the Burke County Jail under a $25,000 secured
bond. |
