Father Charged with Breaking Daughter's Leg

Investigators arrested the father of a five-month-old child today and charged him with felonious child abuse after the infant was discovered to have a broken femur.

Todd Leon Doutt (right), 37, of 8043 Bailey Road was jailed under a $50,000 secured bond this morning, according to Detectives Becky Brendle and Jimmy Lynn of the Burke County Sheriff's Office.

The infant was taken to Frye Regional Medical Center on Monday, January 27th by her mother, Dana Doutt after she noticed bruising and swelling on the child's left leg while changing her diaper. Dr. Kevin Clark reportedly discovered the broken leg during his examination.

Burke County deputy Alan Cobb spoke with Dana Doutt at the hospital, who reportedly told Cobb she had left the child at home with her husband on Sunday while she went to work. When she returned home around 9:30 p.m., the child was crying and continued to cry throughout the night, according to Doutt's statement to Cobb.

The Department of Social Services was contacted and removed the child from the home, according to investigators.

Todd Doutt will have a first court appearance on Friday, February 7th in Burke County District Court.
