Update on Murder Suspect

Authorities searching for accused murderer Jay Dee Flores said the man fled Burke County after forcing another man to drive him to Ligonier, Indiana at gunpoint.

Flores, also known as Fernando Murillo (right), is also wanted in Indiana for attempted voluntary manslaughter and criminal recklessness, according to investigators with the Burke County Sheriff's Office and Ligonier, Indiana Police Department.

In Burke County, warrants have been issued charging Flores/Murillo with two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder inflicting serious injury. His last known address is 2295 Putnam Road, Morganton.

On February 1, deputies responded to a shooting call at Lot 145 of Timerill Trailer Park on Highway 18 North around 2:00 a.m. and found Pescador Mauricio Medina, 29, of Lot 7B 2303 Walt Arney Road, Lenoir, and Gervacio Martinez Salinas, 31, dead inside from apparent gunshot wounds to the head and chest. Salinas was reportedly the renter of the trailer.

The officers found another man, David Teniente, of 2969 Playmore Beach Road, Morganton lying in the front yard of the trailer suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Teniente was taken to Grace Hospital for treatment and later transferred to Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, where his condition is listed as satisfactory.

Detectives allege Flores (recent photo, left) shot the men after losing money in a poker game. Witnesses state Flores left the residence and returned with a gun, opening fire on those seated at the poker table.

Investigators found a brown van hours later at the home of Delores Flores Gonzalez, of 201 Oak Street in Morganton. Flores reportedly had used the van to flee the murder scene and drive to Oak Street, where he had once lived in a garage behind Gonzalez' home.

Gonzalez, who is not related to Jay Dee Flores, told detectives Flores came to his home during the middle of the night on February 1st and forced him at gunpoint to drive him (Flores) to Ligonier, Indiana. Gonzalez contacted the Burke County Sheriff's Office upon his return and was unaware of the Timerill Trailer Park murders, detectives said.

Investigators continue to research a number of leads in their search for Flores, both in Indiana and Burke County.
