Deputy Finds Drugs, Money During Traffic Stop

For the second time in ten days, an alert Burke County Highway Interdiction Team deputy busted two men who were reportedly trafficking cocaine.

On February 21st, Deputy Tracy Icard was conducting a vehicle stop on Interstate 40 after witnessing the vehicle traveling left of center.

Icard requested the driver, Brent Stephen Wilkerson (left), 21, of 3101 Corpening Chapel Road, Morganton, to get out of the car. As Wilkerson exited his vehicle, Icard reportedly saw a bag with white powder hanging from Wilkerson's pocket.

A field test showed the powder to be cocaine, according to authorities. Wilkerson and his passenger, Jamie Leanord Tate (below, right), 22, of 1029 Stevens Drive, Morganton were arrested.

A search of the vehicle by members of the Burke County Narcotics Task Force and "Thor," a Sheriff's Office K-9, revealed a large amount of hidden cash.

Wilkerson and Tate were charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine. Wilkerson reportedly has other pending cases in court for trafficking cocaine. Bonds were set at $25,000 and the men had a first court appearance today.

A traffic stop by Icard also resulted in the confiscation of drugs and the arrest of three men on February 11th.

Icard reportedly witnessed a vehicle driving left of center and stopped the car on East Union Street at Kirksey Drive.

Damond Lamont "Peanut" Kincaid (left), 21, of
3996 Piney Road, Morganton, allegedly gave the officer a fictitious name when the officer asked him for information.

Adrian Douglas Corpening (right), 24, of 3393 Etta Heights, Morganton, and Kequan Tramayne Kincaid, 22, of 2386 Gingercake Court, Lenoir were also inside the vehicle. Kequan Kincaid was arrested after authorities discovered outstanding warrants for him in Caldwell County.

"Dee Dee," a Morganton Department of Public Safety K-9, reportedly alerted officers to a hidden
cache of cocaine, crack cocaine and currency inside of the vehicle.

The Burke County Narcotics Task Force was contacted and charged Damond Kincaid and Adrian Corpening with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine. They were placed under $20,000 secured bonds and had a first court appearance on February 12th.

Charges are pending on Kequan Kincaid, who was taken to Caldwell County for service of the outstanding warrants.

Also assisting the Sheriff's Office in this case were officers from the Morganton Department of Public Safety, Burke County Narcotics Task Force, and Drexel Police Department.
