Foils Break-in Attempt, One Arrested |
| |
| A deputy on routine patrol arrested a Connelly
Springs man this morning after finding the man had allegedly broken into an
eastern Burke business. |
| |
| Around 1:45 a.m., Deputy Mark Connelly
discovered an unoccupied vehicle near the office of Sunshine Carwash, located
on Highway 70 in Hildebran. As the deputy investigated further, he learned the
building had been burglarized and a suspect was still inside. |
| |
The man,
later identified as Randy Dean Lail (right), 36,
of 2709 Coldwater Street, reportedly attempted to run from the business when
the deputy confronted him, but he was quickly apprehended.
Items from
the building were found inside the vehicle, according to Detective Robert Beall
of the Sheriff's Office. Lail was reportedly out on bond for charges issued
last December. |
 |
|
| "I'm proud of Mark," said Sheriff John T.
McDevitt. "Catching a burglar in the act is a satisfying feeling for a law
enforcement officer, especially when it happens in the middle of the night
while most citizens are asleep. Deputy Connelly proved that keen awareness and
good patrol techniques can make a difference." |
| |
| Lail was placed under a $31,000 bond after being
charged with breaking, entering and larceny, possession of burglary tools, and
possession of stolen property. He remains in the Burke County Jail and had a
first court appearance today. |
