Facing Numerous Charges |

A 23-year-old
Morganton man is facing numerous charges in several break-in and theft
cases.
Donnie Ray Harlon (left), of 4636
Homestead Drive has been charged by the Burke County Sheriff's Office with
breaking and entering to a residence, breaking and entering of a motor vehicle,
larceny, and possession of stolen goods. The charges were issued after a
traffic stop involving Harlon resulted in stolen merchandise being
recovered. |
|
| On Saturday morning, Sherri Rena McCall of 5211
Mount Olive Church Road called the Sheriff's Office and reported her vehicle
broken into. |
| |
| Deputy Charles Fisher was dispatched to McCall's
home and while en route, he heard Officer J.R. Huffman with Morganton
Department of Public Safety stop a car in which Harlon was the
driver. |
| |
| Fisher notified Morganton about Harlon's past
arrests for larcenies, and a search of Harlon's vehicle reportedly netted
stolen items taken from Sherri McCall's vehicle. |
| |
| Further investigation by the criminal
investigations division of Burke County alleges Harlon was also involved in
break-in to the residence of David Davis at 4260 NC Highway 18 South. Items
from that break-in were reportedly found in Harlon's vehicle. A second suspect
in the break-in is being sought by detectives. |
| |
| Investigators also allege that Harlon's vehicle
was used in the theft of bicycles from Wal-Mart on March 14th. The bicycles
were recovered at the residence of Harlon's girlfriend, Brandy Anderson
Caldwell, 25, according to authorities. Caldwell's address is listed as 3022
Jamestown Road, Morganton. |
| |
| In addition to the break-in and theft charges
issued by county investigators, Morganton Department of Public Safety charged
Harlon with driving while impaired, driving while license revoked, having an
open container of alcohol, and misdemeanor larceny. He was placed in the Burke
County Jail and will have a first court appearance today on the felony charges.
|
| |
| Caldwell was jailed at Burke Catawba District
Confinement Facility after being charged with misdemeanor larceny in the
bicycle theft, and possession of stolen goods. She has a court date set for
March 24th in Burke County District Court. |
