Man Charged in Convenience Store Burglaries

A Connelly Springs man has been charged with burglaries to two eastern Burke County convenience stores, according to a Sheriff's Office press release.

Danny Eugene Tomlinson (right), 46, of 2299 Shady Grove Road is facing two counts of breaking, entering and larceny, and three counts of felonious possession of stolen goods. The warrants have been issued but not served
because Tomlinson is incarcerated in McDowell County for eight breaking and enterings there, Detective Stacy Buff of the Burke County Sheriff's Office said.

Tomlinson is accused of breaking into the Family Food Mart, located at 300 Malcolm Boulevard, Rutherford College on December 3, 2002. Entry to the building was gained by cutting the alarm telephone wires and breaking through a wall of the business. A safe was reportedly broken into and cash taken.

Tomlinson is also charged with burglarizing the Knob Superette, located at 1121 Highway 70, Connelly Springs on January 20th. The alarm telephone wires were cut and entry made by removing a circulation fan from and exterior wall. Cash was stolen from the store's safe, according to Buff.

Tomlinson has a lengthy criminal record and was recently released from prison. In 1990, he was sentenced to 32 years on drug and habitual felon charges, according to prison records. His past convictions include safecracking, multiple breaking and enterings, forgery, and auto larceny.

Tomlinson remains in McDowell County Jail under a $20,000 bond and will be taken to Burke County after disposition of the charges there, authorities said.
