Parolee Killed; Sister Charged with His Murder

Kathy P. Gantt
A man recently released from prison for killing his father was stabbed to death early this morning, and his sister has been jailed for the murder.

After the apparent domestic situation which left several people injured, Kathy Piercy Gantt, 30, of 2212 Highway 70 East, Morganton, was arrested and charged in the death of Johnny Berl Wilson, Jr., 37. She will have a first court appearance this morning.

According to detectives, the Burke County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call at 11:48 p.m. Thursday night stating that several people had been stabbed and cut at the residence of Patricia Wilson. The house is located behind a convenience store at the intersection of Highway 70 and Burke Memorial Park Road.

Patricia Wilson is reportedly the mother of Johnny Wilson and Kathy Gantt.

Johnny B. Wilson, Jr.

Deputies and emergency services personnel responded and found Gantt and John Harold McDaris, 37, of 420 Hickory Airport Road, suffering from cuts and stab wounds. Johnny Wilson was dead at the scene, detectives said. Several weapons were reportedly seized from the Wilson home.

Gantt and McDaris were transported to Grace Hospital for their injuries. Gantt was treated and released by the hospital. McDaris was rushed into surgery and his condition is undetermined at the time of this press release.

Detectives are still investigating, but the initial motive appears to be domestic related, according to Burke County Sheriff John T. McDevitt.

Authorities allege Johnny Wilson got into an argument with his girlfriend at the residence, and Gantt and Patricia Wilson attempted to intervene. Patricia Wilson reportedly left the home and walked to the convenience store to call for help when an altercation began between her daughter and son.

Johnny Wilson was released from prison nine months ago for the the 1991 murder of his father in Longview, detectives said. He reportedly received a twenty-five year sentence in Burke County Superior Court in May, 1992.

Kathy Gantt remains in the Burke Catawba District Confinement Facility under no bond and awaits her first court appearance today.
