Arrested in Convenience Store Robbery |

A man is in the
Burke Catawba District Confinement Facility after being arrested for the
robbery of a convenience store early Saturday.
Calvin Douglas Propst,
47, of 2443 Watts Street, Morganton was jailed under a $20,000 bond after
detectives with the Burke County Sheriff's Office charged him with the common
law robbery of Colonel's Pantry #12, located at 2185 US Hwy. 70 East in
Morganton. |
|
| According to detectives, the store clerk called
the Sheriff's Office around 4 a.m. and reported a black man came into the store
and forced her to open the cash register. The robber allegedly stuck a hard
item against her back which the clerk perceived to be a gun, an investigator
said. |
| |
| The man exited the store with an undisclosed
amount of money. The clerk told detectives the same man had been in the store a
short time earlier and had made a purchase. |
| |
| Deputies recognized the description given by the
clerk as having similar characteristics to Propst, who is well known by law
enforcement, a detective said. |
| |
| Propst was arrested at his home a short time
later and reportedly identified as being the robber. |
| |
| Saturday's incident was the second time in nine
days the store had been robbed. Chance Clinton Campbell, 26, of 3686 Lot 5 TDK
Trailer Park, Morganton was charged in
another robbery which occurred on
April 10th. |
| |
| Two other convenience store robberies have been
reported to the Sheriff's Office within the past several weeks. Authorities
continue to search for suspects in the robberies of Austin's #2 on Zion Road,
and Vasser's Food Store on Highway 64. |
