| Homicide
Reported in Eastern Burke |
| |
| A 52-year-old man was found dead in his eastern
Burke County mobile home this morning. Investigators on the scene are busy
following leads which have been developed in the case. |
| |
| Nelson L. "Donnie" Epley of 3154 Harmony Church
Street, Icard was discovered by a friend who became worried after not
hearing from Epley since Sunday night, according to CID Lt. John Suttle of the
Burke County Sheriff's Office. |
| |
| Epley worked at Baker Furniture in Icard and
failed to show up for work the past two days, which was unusual, Suttle
said. |
| |
| Investigators learned that Epley's 1994 Ford
Ranger pickup was missing from his home. Suttle described the truck as being
bluish/gray in color and having a white camper cover. The license tag number is
believed to be RPY-5604. An all-points bulletin was issued for officers in
neighboring counties to be on the lookout for the vehicle. |
| |
| Suttle would not disclose a motive for the
homicide or a possible cause of death. |
| |
| "At this point, we are early into the
investigation and I will not compromise the integrity of the case by making
speculations, or releasing too many facts about the crime scene," he said.
"I can only say we are working very hard to solve it." |
| |
| N.C. State Bureau of Investigation crime scene
specialists were dispatched to the mobile home and were still gathering
evidence at the time of this press release. |
