Vaccination Clinics Announced |
| |
| The Burke County Animal Control Division
announces several vaccination clinics this week in order to help the public
comply with public health laws. All dogs and cats four months of age and older
are required to be vaccinated. |
| |
| The clinics are being sponsored by the Burke
County Health Department, Burke County Sheriff's Office, and several Burke
County veterinarians. |
| |
| "Proper vaccination of dogs and cats by a
licensed veterinarian is extremely important due to the increasing spread of
rabies into North Carolina," said Animal Control Lieutenant Clay
Roberts. |
| |
| A fee of $7 per animal (cash only) will be
charged at the clinics, Roberts said. |
| |
| "If you are unable to attend a scheduled clinic,
veterinarians have agreed to vaccinate animals at their facilities for the same
$7 fee, as long as you call for an appointment," Roberts said. |
| |
| Roberts also reminds the public that N.C. state
law requires any unvaccinated dog or cat that has bitten a human being to be
confined at an animal control facility for a period of ten days at the owner's
expense. The owner may also be subject to prosecution under the Burke County
animal control ordinance. |
