Murillo Dies in Mexico

Burke County "Most Wanted" suspect Fernando Murillo, also known as Jay Dee Flores, has died in Mexico of gunshot wounds sustained during a shoot-out with police.

Murillo (left) was shot six times on June 1st during a confrontation with police in the city of Aguascalientes, according to Burke County Sheriff John T. McDevitt. Mexican authorities were attempting to arrest Murillo for a homicide occurring there in 2001.

As authorities tried to arrest the man, Murillo allegedly killed one police officer and wounded another before being shot himself. His condition had been listed as critical until his death on June 9th in an Aguascalientes hospital.

Murillo became Burke County's most wanted individual after the February 1, 2003 killings of two men during a poker game at a local trailer park. He allegedly kidnaped a Burke County man and forced the man to drive him to Indiana. The man was later released unharmed.

Ligonier, Indiana authorities also were looking for Murillo after charging him with manslaughter-related charges.

The Burke County murder case Murillo was being sought for has now officially come to a close because of his death, authorities said.
