Woman Accused of Sneaking Drugs into Jail

A woman visiting her son in jail finds herself behind bars after allegedly attempting to sneak marijuana into the facility.

Brenda Kay Denton (right), 54, of 4149 Lunsford Drive, Hudson came to the Burke County Jail on June 28th to visit her son, Roger, according to investigators. She reportedly gave jailers a package for her son, which was later searched by officers and found to have marijuana hidden inside an item.

Detention officers contacted the Burke County Narcotics Task Force, who took possession of the drugs and had warrants issued on Denton.

On July 8th, Denton returned to the jail for another visit and was arrested. A search of her person reportedly resulted in the confiscation of oxycontin and several other controlled substances.

Denton was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver oxycontin, two count of possession of controlled substance in jail, and three counts of misdemeanor possession of schedule II, III, and IV drugs. She was jailed under a $25,000 secured bond and had a first court appearance on July 9th.
