| Whisnant
Charged with Filing Bogus Robbery Report |
| |
Detectives have
charged a 36-year-old Morganton man with filing a false report, after learning
his claim of being tied up and robbed by five men was bogus.
Kevin Stacy
Whisnant (right), of 985 Lot 5 Enola Road
reportedly called 911 at 1:55 a.m. and told Sheriff's Office officials he had
been the victim of a robbery. When sheriff's deputies arrived at his home, they
found Whisnant tied up with an extension cord, according to Detective Robert F.
Beall. |
 |
|
| Whisnant reportedly told investigators that five
men entered his home wearing military style clothing and ski masks, and robbed
him at gunpoint of a home stereo system. |
| |
| Beall said Whisnant told officers he was forced
to carry the stereo to the robbers' getaway truck. |
| |
| After a short investigation, detectives
determined Whisnant concocted the story and subsequently charged him with
making a false report to law enforcement. |
| |
| Deputies served two other outstanding warrants
on Whisnant, which were already on file at the Sheriff's Office. He was being
sought on assault on a female and communicating threats charges, which were
unrelated to the bogus robbery. |
| |
| Whisnant was jailed under a $1,000 secured bond
and is scheduled to appear in Burke County District Court on August
20th. |
