| Six Charged After Five-Month Long Theft

| Six men have been charged with
various theft offenses after sheriff's detectives concluded an investigation
this week into numerous break-ins and larcenies, which began in June. |

| Charged earlier this month were
Daniel Wayne Richter, 29, of 1012 2nd Street S.E., Hildebran; Jonathan Harold
Reep, 18, of 1846 33rd Street S.W. Hickory; Kenneth Albert Akers, 50, of Garrou
Avenue, Valdese; Jamie Dwayne Teague, 29, of 6454 Lost Key Drive, Connelly
Springs; Clyde Edsel "Buster" Lambert, 54, of 2362 Starnes Street, Morganton;
and Jason Matthew Deal, 26, of 2075 Travis Road, Newton. |

| Richter, Reep, and Akers, who were
charged with one count of breaking, entering and larceny, are alleged to have
targeted homes under construction for carpentry tools, and other homes for ATV
four-wheelers. Investigators surmise the men were involved in at least
sixteen Burke County break-ins or thefts. More charges will be sought through
grand jury indictments, a detective said. |

| Detectives believe the men later
sold the stolen items to individuals, mainly in Burke and Catawba County,
including Teague, Lambert and Deal, who were charged with receiving stolen
goods. |

| According to detectives, the total
amount of property stolen by the men was around $90,000. A moderate amount of
the property was recovered and returned to the owners, although some of the
stolen items were reportedly taken out of state and have not been
recovered. |

| All of the men have had first court
appearances with the exception of Kenneth Akers, who has yet to be arrested.
