Public Meeting for LLEBG Grant

The Burke County Sheriff's Office will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, November 12th at 6:00 P.M. to receive input from citizens for the expenditure of a "Local Law Enforcement Block Grant." The meeting will be held in the Sheriff's Office conference room, 150 Government Drive in Morganton.

The Sheriff's Office will receive $ 28,145.00 from the federal grant, with the funds used to purchase equipment. In previous years, the money has been used to buy a records management system and network equipment, a full service canine, office computers, in-car cameras, mobile data terminals, and equipment for the Rutherford College and Hildebran satellite offices. The Burke County Board of Commissioners agreed to match 1/9 of the total grant award during the passage of the 2003-2004 county budget., which totals a match of $3,127.00.

Ideas garnered from the public meeting will be forwarded to an LLEBG Advisory Board, who will meet shortly afterward and make non-binding recommendations on the expenditure of the LLEBG Grant.

Those with proposals as to the expenditure of the grant funds should keep in mind that the main purpose of the grant is to provide equipment and technology to the Sheriff's Office.
