Richter To Be Charged in Twenty-Six Break-Ins
 Charges Pending on Several Others

A Valdese man, charged with breaking and entering during a five-month investigation in October, will be facing at least twenty-six more burglary charges in Burke County, according to detectives.

Daniel Wayne Richter (right), 29, of Cranbrook Drive Apartment #6, Valdese was jailed under a $25,000 secured bond on December 3rd after being served a warrant for a felonious breaking, entering and larceny, which occurred November 28.

Richter is facing many more charges from Burke County to Greensboro, according to Burke County Detective Becky Brendle. Charges are pending on an undisclosed list of alleged accomplices, she said.

Brendle said in most of the cases, Richter was immediately taking the stolen property he and his accomplices acquired in break-ins to an individual in eastern Burke County, who was "fencing" the items to other individuals.

The detective stated that Richter and his accomplices are responsible for stealing from houses under construction as well as homes for sale. She said they have also stolen numerous items from utility trailers, mobile home lots, houses for sale, and motor vehicles.

Investigators have recovered a "moderate" amount of property from the thefts, Brendle said.

Burke investigators are working with detectives from other agencies across western and central North Carolina, where the men are believed to be involved in other break-ins.
