Drug Arrests Made in Brown Mountain Area

Numerous complaints from citizens in the Brown Mountain Beach Road area led to the arrest of a local resident Wednesday.

Burke County Narcotics Task Force members, along with the Sheriff's Office SWAT team, executed a search warrant at the home of Maurice McArthur Jackson (right), 32, of 1832 Brown Mountain Beach Road, according to a Task Force press release.

Jackson's residence had lately been under surveillance due to complaints of possible drug activity, according to one investigator.

Detectives reportedly located marijuana, drug paraphernalia and money. Jackson was arrested at the home without incident.

A 1999 Oldsmobile leaving the home at the time of the raid was stopped by officers near the intersection of Highway 181 and Brown Mountain Beach Road.

The vehicle and its operator, Robin Powell Fleming (left), 43, were searched and a quantity of crack cocaine was located, according to investigators. Fleming reportedly lives at the same address as Jackson.

Jackson was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana. He was placed under a secured bond of $5,000. Fleming was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, and was given a custody release. Additional charges are pending against the two.

Jackson and Fleming will have a first court appearance tomorrow in Burke County District Court.
