Authorities Seeking Answers in Icard Man's Death |
| |
| A well-known personality from eastern Burke
County was found dead in his home Thursday afternoon, and authorities are
investigating his death, which they call "suspicious." |
| |
| Eighty-two year old Henry "Red" Gibson was found
dead inside a recreational vehicle mobile home he was using as a residence.
Authorities say that foul play is suspected. |
| |
| Burke deputies found Gibson's body around 5 PM
on February 5th after someone called the Sheriff's Office, requesting his
welfare be checked. The mobile home is located between Highway 70 and the
railroad tracks near East Burke Boulevard. |
| |
| Detectives said the bearded Gibson, referred to
by locals as "Red," was somewhat of a loner who was known to walk the highways
in Icard wearing military attire. He often was seen picking up cans in the
vicinity of his home. |
| |
| A crime scene was established at Gibson's home
by detectives, who said they would not release additional information at this
time in order to protect the integrity of the investigation. They believe
Gibson may have died on Tuesday or Wednesday night. |
| |
| An autopsy was performed on the body, however
investigators would not disclose the findings. |
| |
| Authorities are requesting anyone who may have
seen someone around Gibson's home last week to contact the Sheriff's Office at
(828) 438-5500, or via e-mail at
cid@burkesheriff.org. |
