Speeding Violation Turns Into Drug Charges

A Morganton man probably wishes he had paid better attention to the city speed limit signs after his arrest on Monday.

Darren Liticus Robinson (left), 36, of 407 Vine Arden Road was stopped by Morganton Public Safety Officer Scott Lanning for speeding on Carbon City Road. Robinson was arrested after officers learned he had an outstanding child support warrant against him.

During a search of Robinson's vehicle after his arrest, officers reportedly located crack cocaine and marijuana.

The Burke County Narcotics Task Force charged Robinson with possession with intent to sell and deliver crack cocaine. He was placed under a $20,000 secured bond on the drug charge, and was placed under an additional cash bond of $10,886.51 for the child support non-compliance charge.

Additional drug charges are pending. Robinson has a first court appearance today.
