| Icard
Man Arrested on Rape and Kidnaping Charges |
| |
 |
A joint
investigation with Burke County Sheriff's Office and the Catawba County
Department of Social Service led to the arrest of an Icard man on April 20th.
John Clayton Blevins' 63rd birthday coincided with his first appearance
in Burke County District Court to answer kidnaping, first degree rape and first
degree sexual offense charges. Blevins is accused of molesting a ten-year-old
Catawba County girl. |
|
| According to Burke County Detective David Kiser,
Catawba County DSS was contacted by the child's mother on April 15th. The woman
reportedly told an investigator with Catawba County DSS that her daughter had
been sexually assaulted by Blevins at a residence in Burke County. |
| |
| The joint investigation with Kiser and Catawba
County Social Worker Matt Crabtree resulted in warrants being issued against
Blevins. He was arrested at his residence on April 20th, and jailed in the
Burke Catawba District Confinement Facility under a $75,000 bond. |
| |
| Kiser said cooperation between the Burke County
Sheriff's Office and Catawba County DSS was a key factor in the investigation,
along with assistance from workers with the Child Advocacy Center of South
Mountain. |
| |
| "They are the unsung heroes of these type of
investigations," Kiser stated. "The residents of both counties need to be aware
of the important role they play in successful prosecution of these
cases." |
