Arrest Made in Shotgun Robbery of Food Store

A Lawndale man was arrested late Sunday and charged with the robbery of an eastern Burke County convenient store.

Detectives believe Michael Eugene Wright (right), 38, of 7059 Casar Road, Lawndale is the man who entered the B&B Food Store in Hildebran around 9:50 p.m. Friday night and robbed the clerk with a full-sized shotgun.

According to statements made to Burke County Sheriff's Office investigators by employees of B&B, a man entered the business wearing camouflage clothing and a camouflage mask and demanded money.

After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, the robber reportedly ran to the rear of the store and fled in a dark-colored truck with a camper shell.

No one was injured during the robbery, a detective said.

On Sunday, detectives said Wright was developed as a suspect, and he was arrested later that evening.

Wright was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and jailed under a $25,000 secured bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for today.
