Altercation Results in Shooting, Injuries

Deputies responding to a shooting call early Saturday morning arrived to find three people injured, including an East Burke High School student who apparently suffered a gunshot wound to his legs.

Detectives with the Burke County Sheriff's Office later charged Brady Lee Lail (left), 23, of 7052 Hildebran Mountain Avenue, Connelly Springs with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

According to Detective Mark Connelly, deputies were dispatched to Hildebran Mountain Avenue on May 8th at 2:08 a.m. Upon their arrival, they found Bryan Scott Carr, 18, of 4838 Miller Bridge Road suffering from gunshot wounds to the legs. Lail reportedly had several lacerations to his chest and head. Both men were transported to Valdese Hospital for treatment.

Another man, Chris Allen Turner, reportedly had minor injuries to his arm, but was not transported to the hospital.

Connelly said witnesses stated Bryan Carr and his brother, Wesley had been involved in an ongoing altercation with Lail. The disputed allegedly escalated to a brawl at Lail's residence.

Bryan Carr claimed he hit Lail in the head with a beer bottle because Lail was beating Wesley, Connelly said. Lail reportedly retrieved a .22 caliber rifle and fired several shots at Carr as he left the scene in his truck, striking him in the legs with one or two shots.

Other charges may be pending in the matter, Connelly said.

Lail was taken into custody after his release from the hospital and charged with the shooting. He was placed in the Burke Catawba District Confinement Facility under a $15,000 secured bond. He has a first court appearance today.
