Arrests Made in String of Burglaries

Jonathan W. Loven

Rodney E. Conley

Two men have been arrested in the recent string of break-ins to several Burke County businesses.

Charged with felonious breaking, entering and larceny, and felonious possession of stolen property are Jonathan Wayne Loven, 29, of 125 Silver Creek Road, Morganton, and Rodney Eugene Conley, 34, of 102 Enola Road, Morganton. The charges stem from the May 19th burglary of Garrison's Convenience Store on Highway 64 in the Salem community.

According to Burke County Sheriff's Office Detective Chris Marsh,  the store was broken into by the suspects throwing a rock through a window. An undisclosed amount of money was taken from the store.

Detectives with the Sheriff's Office received information shortly after the break-in that Jonathan Loven was involved in other burglaries to western Burke County and Morganton businesses, according to Marsh.

Sheriff's Office investigators and detectives with the Morganton Department of Public Safety interviewed several witnesses, Marsh said, including interviews with Loven and Conley. The interviews led to the suspects' arrests.

Marsh said Loven and Conley are also facing additional charges in burglaries to Salem General Store on May 19th, Uniform Supply Company on May 19th, Pal's Drive Thru on May 20th, Oak Hill General Store on May 20th, and A&J's Convenience Store on January 3rd.

Detectives reportedly recovered three cash registers taken from three of the burglaries.

Jonathan Loven is also suspected of a break-in to the residence of William Loven at Steel Creek Park on Highway 181, Marsh stated. Both Marsh and Conley are expected to be indicted on the other break-ins in future court proceedings.

Loven was jailed under a $20,000 bond on June 1st, and Conley was arrested on June 2nd and jailed under a $15,000 bond.
