Deputies Foil Burglary; Recover Stolen Property

Greg W. Abrams
Deputies responding to a Saturday morning burglary caught a suspect with loot from other burglaries, according to a Burke County Sheriff's Office news release.

Around 12:55 a.m., Burke deputies Jimmy Lynn and Lonny Hildebrand were dispatched to a burglary in progress at S&N Communications, located at 4060 U.S. Hwy. 70 East in Hildebran.

As they arrived, they reportedly found Greg William Abrams, 23, on the property.

Abrams ran from the scene and the deputies gave chase, according to the news release. Officers staked out Lowman's Motel, which is located close to area in which Abrams fled.

A short time later, Abrams was arrested in a room at the motel. A search of the S&N Communications property revealed two buildings that were allegedly burglarized.

Detective Chris Marsh stated that a search of Abrams' motel room resulted in the confiscation of property stolen in other recent burglaries, including one in the town of Longview. A detective with Longview Police Department responded to the scene and collected items believed to have been stolen during the Longview burglary.

Abrams was jailed under a $15,000 secured bond after being charged with felonious breaking and entering. He will have a first court appearance today. Abrams is also wanted by the Hickory Police Department on outstanding warrants, according to Marsh.
