Connelly Springs Man Facing Child Sex Charges

Burke detectives, in conjunction with the Burke County Department of Social Services, arrested a 75-year-old man Monday and charged him with two counts of indecent liberties with children.

According to Det. David Kiser of the Sheriff's Office, William Everette Harwell (left) of 7971 Rhodhiss Road molested a child on two occasions, and there may be more victims in addition to the child that led to Harwell's arrest.

Kiser said that Burke County D.S.S. received a report on August 11th from the parent of the child. The parent told a D.S.S. worker that the child disclosed two occurrences of being touched by Harwell in a sexual manner.

The report led to a joint investigation by the Catawba County Department of Social Services and the Burke County Sheriff's Office. Harwell was arrested at his home Monday.

"After numerous interviews, we have received substantial information that leads us to believe there are more victims out there," Kiser said. "If anyone has information pertaining to Mr. Harwell and this case, I urge them to call me immediately."

In addition to the indecent liberties charges, Harwell was charged with sexual battery. He was jailed under a $100,000 bond at Burke Catawba District Confinement Facility and will have a first court appearance tomorrow.
