| Fugitive
from Tennessee Homicide Caught in Burke |
| |
A fugitive wanted for
vehicular homicide in Tennessee was arrested by a Burke County detective
yesterday in Morganton.
According to authorities, Iva Jane Duckworth
(right), 57, failed to show up in a Carter County, Tennessee courtroom on
October 12th. Duckworth was supposed to be in court for a March 24th incident
in which she was charged with aggravated vehicular homicide. |
 |
|
| Investigators said Duckworth, who was also
charged in the March 24th incident with reckless driving and driving with an
open alcohol container, evaded Carter County authorities for awhile until she
was arrested in Burke County on August 4th. |
| |
| Duckworth was extradited back to Tennessee,
where she posted bond and disappeared again, according to Detective Robert
Beall of the Burke County Sheriff's Office. |
| |
| A fugitive warrant was issued against Duckworth
after failing to show in court on October 12th, Beall said. Carter County
authorities contacted Burke investigators, and Duckworth was arrested without
incident at a Kincaid Street residence two days later. |
| |
| Beall said Duckworth had made plans to leave the
country yesterday, but was arrested before she could leave. |
| |
| Duckworth will have an extradition hearing on
Friday. She is currently in the Burke Catawba District Confinement Facility
under no bond. |
