Eastern Burke Woman Arrested for Embezzlement

A Rutherford College woman has been arrested, reportedly for embezzling some of the concession stand proceeds from the East Burke/Freedom "Fat Friday" football game on November 5th.

Detectives with the Burke County Sheriff's Office and Burke County Narcotics Task Force say they conducted an investigation after receiving a report on October 29th that Crystal Dawn Chapman (right), 40, was possibly stealing money while working the concession booth during East Burke High School ball games.

Chapman was arrested during the Fat Friday game after undercover officers reportedly witnessed her take an undisclosed amount of money from the cash drawer. The concession booth is operated by the Athletic Booster Club of East Burke.

Chapman, who's address is listed as 1120 Malcolm Boulevard in Rutherford College, was charged with embezzlement and released on a written promise to appear in court. Her first court appearance is scheduled for today.
